Hello YOU

It has been eight months since I last wrote a blog post. It is my intent to post blogs monthly on the 14th of each month. However, time has not afforded me the opportunity to meet this goal. Does it mean this goal is unattainable? Does it mean I failed? I say no. What it means to me instead is that I needed to:

  1. Take some time to look at the objectives I set in place to meet this goal
  2. Reevaluate them

and

  1. Create objectives that align best with the demands on my time, so I can actually meet this goal.

Oftentimes what happens when individuals find themselves falling short on a goal they made for themselves is that they give up. They feel it means the goal cannot be achieved and they failed. However, let’s consider what has happened since the goal was made that is causing them not to achieve it.

  • First, they must ask themselves:
    • Were the objectives realistic from the onset?
    • Was the goal itself?

If the answer is no, then it is clear that the path to the goal needs to be reconsidered and or the goal needs to be reevaluated; is it the right time?

I will never say a goal is unattainable, I will say, it has to be the right time. However, if the objectives and goal was realistic when they were originally created, then:

  • Second, the question to ask is:
    • What has changed?

Our circumstances in life are constantly changing. Thus, our approach must also change to meet the demands of our lives.

I know what I need to do to achieve this goal that I set for myself. In fact, I knew what I needed to do months ago… but knowing and doing are two different things. It was not that I did not do it because of procrastination. Which can also cause some individuals to fall back on a goal. For me, there were other things at play that I needed to rectify. Now that I have taken the steps to work on the other things, I can be certain that I will complete the year with a blog post, posted on the 14th for the remaining months in 2026.

Now, ask yourself:

  • Where am I with my goals?
  • What do I need to adjust to ensure I meet my goals by the end of the year?

And remember, it is perfectly acceptable to take a goal into the next year, if that is what is needed.
